Grain Producers Call for Border Closures to Combat Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Pan-Cypriot Grain Producers Organization expresses concern over the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus and calls on the government to take drastic measures to combat the disease. Specifically, it proposes the closure of crossing points from and to the occupied territories and the intensification of controls along the ceasefire line. The organization expresses its solidarity with farmers affected by the disease and emphasizes the importance of immediate implementation of support measures, both psychological and financial, to cover losses and reactivate those affected. The grain producers' organization recognizes livestock farming as a key pillar of the agricultural economy and highlights the broader impact of the disease on the agricultural community. Finally, it calls on the competent authorities to act quickly and effectively to limit the spread of the disease.
