Severe Damage from Strong Winds in Larnaca and Famagusta

Strong winds caused significant damage in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta. The Fire Service and municipalities received dozens of calls regarding fallen trees and solar water heaters. Trees fell on cars and roads were closed, while power outages occurred. The most significant damage was recorded on the beaches of Nissi Beach, Sandy Bay, and Pantachou in Ayia Napa, where sunbeds and umbrellas were swept away. Damage was also reported to greenhouses and crops, particularly in early potato crops in Ormideia, Xylofagou, and Sotira. In Xylofagou, trees and solar water heaters fell, and a boat sank in the fishing shelter. The famous potato exhibit was damaged but is expected to be repaired. The Ministry of Agriculture has begun recording the damage for compensation purposes.
