Court Upholds €15,000 Defamation Fine Against 'Phileleftheros' Newspaper in Papasavvas Dental Implant Case

The Court of Appeal has upheld the original decision ordering the 'Phileleftheros' newspaper to pay €15,000 in damages to former Assistant Attorney General Akis Papasavvas for a defamatory comment regarding dental implants. The case dates back to 2010 and concerned publications implying coercion for the return of funds. The Court of Appeal ruled that the satirical text did not limit itself to criticizing an action but 'attacked' Papasavvas' character, attributing immorality to him. The newspaper attempted to defend the comment as honest criticism, but the appeal was dismissed.
