Palma – Dendias Meeting: Assessing Security Situation – All Appropriate Measures to be Examined

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas announced a meeting tomorrow with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff Dimitrios Houpis to assess the security situation in the region, in light of developments in the Middle East and Cyprus. The purpose of the meeting is to review data, evaluate the situation, and examine appropriate measures to protect citizens. This move follows the dispatch of two Greek frigates and a pair of F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus, a decision made after communication between the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The strengthening of Cyprus's defense is part of efforts to address threats and illegal activities on its territory. Mr. Palmas emphasized the importance of an effective response to any eventuality and ensuring the safety of citizens. The meeting is expected to focus on analyzing risks and preparing for potential challenges in the region. The dispatch of Greek military forces to Cyprus and the upcoming meeting of Defense Ministers underscore the close cooperation between Greece and Cyprus on security and defense issues, as well as their common will to protect their interests in the region.

Συνάντηση με τον Έλληνα Υπουργό Εθνικής Άμυνας, Νίκο Δένδια, και με τον Αρχηγό του Γενικού Επιτελείου Εθνικής Άμυνας της Ελλάδας, Στρατηγό Δημήτριο Χούπη, ανακοίνωσε ότι θα έχει αύριο ο Υπουργός Άμυνας, Βασίλης Πάλμας, με ανάρτησή του στο X, υπό το φως των εξελίξεων στη Μέση Ανατολή και στην περιοχή της Κύπρου.
Κατά τη συνάντηση, σύμφωνα με τον κ. Πάλμα, θα προβούν «σε γενική ανασκόπηση των δεδομένων και αξιολόγηση της κατάστασης ασφαλείας, καθώς και στην εξέταση όλων των ενδεδειγμένων μέτρων, με στόχο τη διασφάλιση της αποτελεσματικής ανταπόκρισης σε κάθε ενδεχόμενο, καθώς και την προστασία και ασφάλεια των πολιτών μας».

Υπενθυμίζεται ότι, στην Κύπρο σπεύδουν δύο ελληνικές φρεγάτες καθώς και ζεύγος μαχητικών F-16, όπως ανακοίνωσε ο Νίκος Δένδιας, μετά και από επικοινωνία του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας Νίκου Χριστοδουλίδη με τον Έλληνα Πρωθυπουργό, Κυριάκο Μητσοτάκη στο πλαίσιο ενίσχυσης με κάθε δυνατό τρόπο στην άμυνα της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, ώστε να αντιμετωπιστούν οι απειλές και οι παράνομες ενέργειες στο έδαφός της.
