Holy Synod to Convene Emergency Meeting Regarding Tychikos, Statute, and Avvakoum Monastery

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus will convene an emergency meeting today to discuss the issue of Bishop Tychikos, who has appealed to civil courts claiming the Metropolis of Paphos. The Synod will also consider statutory changes, aiming to become more flexible in decision-making and the administration of justice. Specifically, a proposal by Archbishop Georgios for the election of Bishops and Metropolitans exclusively by the Holy Synod, without the participation of the laity, will be discussed. In addition, allegations regarding the behavior of monks residing in the Avvakoum Monastery will be examined, with reports that they were performing sacraments without the appropriate priestly office.
