Holy Synod to Convene Urgently – Tychikos and Avvakoum on the Agenda

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus will convene urgently today, Thursday, to discuss the issue of Bishop Tychikos, as well as proposed changes to the Church's Charter. Archbishop Georgios described Bishop Tychikos's appeal to civil courts as a “new serious development,” emphasizing that it is unusual for the Church. The discussion will focus on Tychikos's disobedience, who is seeking to claim the Metropolis of Paphos through the courts. In addition, complaints regarding monks performing religious duties at the Avvakoum Monastery will be examined, and a proposal is being made to change the process of electing Bishops and Metropolitans, so that the decision is made exclusively by the Holy Synod.
