President of Cyprus Discusses Greenland Issue with Danish PM, EU Decisions Expected

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, held an extensive telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, regarding the Greenland issue and discussions between Denmark and the United States. The President expects EU decisions to be made at the extraordinary European Council on Thursday, which he will attend in person. Responding to journalists' questions, President Christodoulides emphasized that the Cypriot Presidency will fulfill its institutional role, even in challenging situations, such as the discussion on countermeasures against the US due to the Greenland issue. He underscored Cyprus's firm stance on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. Currently, no decisions have been made. A meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee has already taken place for an initial exchange of views, and a discussion and decision-making process is expected at the European Council. The President reiterated his preference for a diplomatic solution and the taking of decisions based on developments. The convening of an extraordinary European Council with physical presence, rather than a teleconference, indicates the seriousness of the issue for the EU. Furthermore, the President confirmed that there is no financial burden for countries participating in the Peace Council for Gaza, clarifying a related report.
