€50 Million Investment for a Modern Green Port in Latsi

The ambitious project to expand the port in Latsi, with a budget of €52 million, has been approved to begin. The project, which will be implemented in two phases, aims to upgrade the area's sea and land infrastructure, which is a significant gateway to the Akamas Peninsula and a starting point for pleasure craft. The Cyprus Ports Authority has already submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and is in public consultation. The main goal of the project is to transform the port into a modern “Green Port” (EcoPort), in accordance with European standards and regulations. This includes incorporating “green” infrastructure, waste management systems, and state-of-the-art anti-pollution measures. The expansion will offer capacity for an additional 186 vessels, and includes the construction of new quays, floating docks, spaces for commercial and recreational activities, as well as building facilities for public services (Port and Maritime Police, Customs, Fisheries Department). In addition, significant interventions are planned at the mouth of the “Argaki of Agios Ioannis” river, as well as the creation of new spaces and access roads, and building facilities for administrative services, shops and recreation areas. The project is expected to contribute to the economic development of the region and promote sustainable tourism.
