Christodoulides – Mitsotakis Phone Call Regarding Cyprus Ahead of Greek PM's Meeting with Erdogan in Ankara

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, had a telephone conversation with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, regarding the Cyprus issue, ahead of the Greek Prime Minister's upcoming meeting with the President of Turkey in Ankara. The purpose of the communication was the coordination between Nicosia and Athens for the resumption of substantive negotiations on the Cyprus issue, from the point where they were interrupted in Crans Montana. During the phone call, the two leaders exchanged views and assessed current developments, taking into account the future Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting. The latest developments in the Cyprus issue and efforts to restart negotiations within the framework of the United Nations were discussed. The common approach of Cyprus and Greece to restart the negotiation process from Crans Montana was confirmed, with the aim of a sustainable and functional solution, based on international law and the European acquis. Commitment to international law, the principles and values of the EU, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council was underlined. The two leaders agreed to continue close cooperation and regular coordination at all levels, so that every diplomatic contact and initiative strengthens the effort for progress in the Cyprus issue.
