Fytiris Responds to Allegations of Threats Against Police Union Leader

Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris avoided directly commenting on allegations made by Nikos Loizidis, president of the Police Force Branch of the "Equality" trade union, regarding alleged threats he received. He expressed the view that discussing the matter could lower the level of the press conference. Mr. Fytiris stated that he would be pleased if the Chief of Police confirmed to him that Mr. Loizidis had requested a transfer to a front-line unit and to leave the Archives. This suggests that a transfer could be a solution to the issue. Mr. Loizidis's allegations concern alleged threats from the Minister of Justice, with the union leader linking the threats to his trade union activity.
