UNFICYP Resolves Unauthorized Farming in Buffer Zone Near Avlona

UNFICYP was informed about unauthorized agricultural activities within the buffer zone in the Avlona area and immediately dispatched peacekeeping forces to the area. According to the Force Spokesperson, Alim Siddiq, UNFICYP cooperated with both sides to de-escalate the situation and maintain calm. The issue was resolved peacefully and UNFICYP continues to closely monitor the area. The complaint concerned the violation of the buffer zone by Turkish farmers, who are cultivating citrus fruits, a permanent crop, instead of seasonal vegetables, as stipulated in the agreement with the United Nations. According to the agreement, only legitimate landowners with the relevant permits are allowed to cultivate in the buffer zone. The Community Leader, Menelaos Savva, had informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the incident.
