Iran Threatens to Strike US Aircraft Carrier
Iran is escalating tensions in the region by threatening to target the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln if it approaches the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian naval commander stated that Tehran is prepared to respond with coastal missile systems, claiming the US carrier was forced to retreat due to Iranian operations. The chief of the Iranian navy, Shahram Irani, stated that the USS Abraham Lincoln will be targeted if it enters range, as retaliation for the sinking of the Iranian frigate Dena on March 4th. Tehran presents its actions as defensive, responding to American aggression and committing to defend its territorial waters. Irani declared they will avenge the deaths of the Dena crew members by launching missiles at the carrier, should it come within range.
