Summer of 2025 Was Third Warmest on Record in Greece

The summer of 2025 was the third warmest recorded in Greece, with the highest temperature registered in Skala Messinias in July during a prolonged heatwave. Overall, 9 out of 12 months in 2025 experienced temperatures above normal. Significant rainfall was also recorded in Western Greece, Epirus, and the Ionian Islands. According to the National Observatory of Athens/METEO, the last four summers (2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025) were characterized by extended heatwaves, an unprecedented phenomenon. The highest temperature of the year was 45.8 degrees Celsius in Skala Messinias, while the lowest was -11.8 degrees Celsius in the Ochiro Nevrokopio.
