Paradox of the Dams: Despite the Rain, They Are Emptying

Published December 29, 2025, 19:22

Cyprus is preparing to face a period of bad weather starting tomorrow evening, with local rains, thunderstorms, and possible snowfall in the mountains. The thunderstorms, especially in the coastal areas of Limassol and Paphos, are expected to be strong and accompanied by hail. At the same time, a drop in temperature is expected, with maximums reaching 4 degrees Celsius inland, 8 degrees on the coast, and around 0 degrees in the mountains. Despite the recent rainfall, there was virtually no inflow of water into the dams, resulting in a slight decrease in overall fullness from 9.4% to 9.3%.
