The Cypriot Presidency's Cultural Program: A Woven Tale of Memory, Tradition, and Contemporary Creation

Cyprus is preparing to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026, with an ambitious cultural program aimed at highlighting culture as a tool for political intervention. The program, presented at the Presidential Palace, includes extensive initiatives in 31 countries, with the participation of hundreds of artists and the collaboration of international cultural institutions. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Lina Kassianidou, emphasized that culture is a central pillar of the Presidency and not merely an accompanying element. The program seeks to promote Cyprus's cultural heritage, combining it with contemporary creation and new technologies, creating a unified cultural narrative. A total of over 500 artists and cultural professionals are involved in the program, while the total budget amounts to 4.4 million euros. This amount is considered a significant investment in Cypriot culture, with the aim of strengthening Cyprus's international profile and attracting investment. The program aims to function as a cultural bridge between peoples, highlighting Cyprus as a place with a rich history and culture. The Cypriot Presidency aspires to leave a lasting legacy in the field of culture, enhancing Cyprus's international image and promoting cultural dialogue in Europe and the world.
