Turkey to Build 50 MW Solar Park in Occupied Cyprus

Turkey plans to build a 50 MW solar park in the occupied part of Cyprus, at a cost of approximately $60 million. The project is expected to be completed within two years and connected to the electricity grid in the occupied territories, aiming to cover a chronic power shortage. Electricity generation in the occupied territories is mainly based on fuel oil, with limited penetration of renewable energy sources, leading to high costs and frequent power outages. The construction of the solar park is an attempt to reduce dependence on fuel oil and improve energy self-sufficiency.
