Turkish Media: Proposal for 'Citizenship' to Turks Buying Property in Occupied Cyprus

Turkish media reports that a proposal is under consideration to grant 'citizenship' to Turkish citizens who purchase property in occupied Cyprus, aiming to absorb the large number of newly built homes, estimated at 20-25 thousand, mainly in the Trikomo area. According to the president of the Turkish Cypriot Contractors Association, Jafer Gurjafier, the proposal is being discussed with the 'government' of the occupied territories and will be presented to the Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yilmaz. The regulation will apply exclusively to Turkish citizens, and the financial threshold for obtaining 'citizenship' will be determined after technical and legal procedures. Property prices range from $120,000 to $200,000, while the possibility of short-term or long-term rental of the properties is emphasized. Simultaneously, the construction sector expresses concerns about potential actions by the Republic of Cyprus at the European Union level against individuals and companies operating in properties in the occupied territories, and calls for strengthening legal support.
