Turkish soldiers and pseudo-police attacked farmers in Mammari – “They threw stones at us, tried to arrest us” – A young farmer describes the scenes. A new incident of harassment of Greek Cypriot farmers by Turkish soldiers, this time in the Mammari area, within the Dead Zone. According to Gavriel Gerolemu, Turkish soldiers and pseudo-police attempted to arrest him and his father while they were cultivating. “They tried to drive us away. They threw stones at us, tried to grab us by the neck,” he says. According to his testimony, a Turkish soldier initially attempted to approach the double-cab vehicle parked next to the field and take the keys from the ignition, resulting in the two farmers attempting to stop him. Members of the occupation army and pseudo-police then rushed to the scene and tried to board the tractor driven by his father. “A pseudo-policeman tried to get on the tractor to arrest my father. When he accelerated to get away from the spot, he fell off the tractor,” he noted. The incident took place within the Dead Zone, but the blue helmets who rushed to the scene remained as spectators.
