Three road accidents occurred overnight in the districts of Nicosia and Paphos, attributed to driving under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but police made arrests. In Nicosia, two separate accidents occurred on Democracy Avenue, with the first driver registering an alcohol level of 97μg% and the second 110μg%. Both drivers were arrested on the spot. In Paphos, a car driven by a 48-year-old man veered off course and collided with safety barriers, resulting in a rollover. The driver was taken to hospital with a broken arm and was detained, as the alcohol test showed 37μg%. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accidents. Police remind the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, emphasizing that it is one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents. According to statistics from the last five years, drunk driving accounts for 12.8% of fatal collisions. Police continue to carry out intensive checks on the entire road network, with the aim of preventing accidents and protecting citizens. During the past night, more than 240 alcohol tests were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 14 drivers who were driving under the influence.
