Andreas Paschalidis has assumed duties as the Independent Criminal Investigator to probe the controversial video, following a mandate from the Attorney General. George Savvides, the Attorney General, stated that the investigation is already underway and covers multiple directions both in Cyprus and abroad. The investigator's mandate is broad, encompassing the authenticity, origin, motives for production and publication of the video, as well as any other issues that may arise. Mr. Savvides emphasized that the Legal Service is in constant contact with the Police and other state services to monitor the case. He also pointed out that the investigation did not start now, but has been ongoing since the video became known. The meeting held with the Chief of Police, the Deputy Attorney General, and the investigative team aimed to coordinate and determine the next steps. Regarding the investigation abroad, Mr. Savvides confirmed that witnesses will be called and legal assistance will be requested from foreign authorities, given that the investigation also concerns the production and distribution of the video. He noted that it is important not to provide daily updates on the progress of the case in order not to affect the investigation. The Legal Service assured that it will seek to complete the investigation as quickly as possible, while Mr. Paschalidis will closely monitor the progress, in consultation with the Police and investigators. The case was described as multifaceted and requires careful and detailed investigation.
