Οι πρόσφατες προαγωγές κατώτερων στελεχών στην Αστυνομία Κύπρου έγιναν από τον Αρχηγό Αστυνομίας στη βάση του περί Αστυνομίας Νόμου και των ισχυουσών κανονιστικών διατάξεων, αναφέρει το Υπουργείο Δικαιοσύνης και Δημοσίας Τάξεως σε τοποθέτησή του την Πέμπτη, με αφορμή σχετικά δημοσιεύματα.
Σε ανακοίνωσή του, το Υπουργείο διευκρινίζει ότι οι προαγωγές πραγματοποιήθηκαν σύμφωνα με το υφιστάμενο νομικό και κανονιστικό πλαίσιο.
Παράλληλα, σημειώνει ότι, ύστερα από 22 χρόνια εφαρμογής του ισχύοντος νόμου, αξιολόγησης και προαγωγής, διαπιστώνεται ανάγκη τροποποίησης του περί Αστυνομίας Νόμου, ώστε να νομοθετηθούν αντικειμενικά κριτήρια.
Όπως αναφέρει, στόχος είναι η ενίσχυση της αξιοκρατίας, της ισονομίας και της διαφάνειας στις διαδικασίες αξιολόγησης και προαγωγών.
Προσθέτει ότι βρίσκεται ήδη σε εξέλιξη στοχευμένη μελέτη για τον εκσυγχρονισμό των διαδικασιών αξιολόγησης και προαγωγών στην Αστυνομία.

Ministry of Justice: Police Promotions Were Made According to Law – Change Coming for More Objective Criteria
The Ministry of Justice announced that the recent promotions within the Cyprus Police were carried out legally, in accordance with the Police Law and existing regulations. The announcement was issued in response to related publications. The Ministry acknowledges the need to amend the law to introduce more objective criteria in the evaluation and promotion processes, aiming to strengthen meritocracy, equality, and transparency. The amendment of the law is deemed necessary after 22 years of applying the existing framework, during which weaknesses and needs for improvement were identified. The targeted study currently underway will contribute to the modernization of procedures and ensure fairness and transparency. The government is committed to the continuous improvement of the operation of the Cyprus Police and strengthening public trust in the force. The introduction of objective criteria in promotions is an important step in this direction.
