Fidan: Low Risk of Iran Targeting Cyprus

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that he does not believe Cyprus is likely to be targeted by an Iranian attack at this time, even in the “south” of the island, especially for non-military installations. However, he warned that the escalation of the Iran-US/Israel conflict poses serious risks to regional and global stability, with particular emphasis on the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Fidan described a prolonged and expanding conflict that would destabilize the entire Middle East as the worst-case scenario. Turkey is considering all possible scenarios in various sectors. He estimated that the goals of Israel and the US are to militarily weaken Iran, while he did not rule out the possibility of a regime change. He stressed that Turkey protects itself and has the will and ability to do so, regardless of the crisis. Approximately 20,000 Turkish citizens are in Iran, with no casualties reported so far.
