AHK: New Dekelia Units Delayed to 2030

The arrival of the three new production units in Dekelia is now postponed to 2030, according to AHK President Giorgos Petrou, during a meeting of the House Finance Committee. The delay is due to a letter received by AHK from Siemens, which increases the delivery time by 18 months. Initially, the delivery time was agreed at 2.5 years, but is now estimated to take 4 years. The delay is attributed to high international demand and the absorption of production capacity by data centers in the US. Mr. Petrou stated that the issue has been raised at a political level and will be discussed with the Minister, while a comprehensive review of the agreement is being considered, including the possibility of canceling the purchase of the units. The delay creates problems, as some fuel oil units will need to be disconnected in 2029, and the lack of new units will create a gap unless natural gas arrives. The AHK budget provides for total expenditure of €2.555 billion and revenue of €1.956 billion, with a cash deficit of €349 million. Capital expenditure amounts to €456.679 million, increased compared to 2025, due to projects and upgrades to absorb more "green" energy. The cash deficit will be covered by borrowing and own funds. During the discussion, MPs raised questions about the uncertainties of the budget, the cost of pollution, and the potential reduction in costs with the use of natural gas.
