AKEL: Centre-Right Majority Means Policies Favouring Banks and Funds

AKEL spokesperson Marina Savva strongly criticised President Christodoulides' pursuit of a centre-right majority in Parliament, describing it as a goal to maintain policies that favour banks and funds. According to Ms. Savva, such a majority is responsible for facilitating foreclosures on primary residences, refusing to tax bank super-profits, and burdening low-wage earners. President Christodoulides, it is noted, limited himself to describing the problems without proposing specific solutions. DISY avoided directly commenting on the President's reference that it supports his policies in foreign affairs, the economy and migration, stating that it evaluates each piece of legislation with a view to economic stability and proposes amendments where deemed appropriate. EDEK expressed its annoyance at not being included in the President's reference, emphasising that self-determination is a matter for each individual. The party assured that it will continue to engage in politics based on its historical and ideological principles, particularly with regard to the Cyprus issue. AKEL is committed to continuing to submit proposals to support vulnerable groups, protect borrowers and address accuracy, the housing crisis and energy poverty, proposing specific measures such as the taxation of bank super-profits and the restoration of the right to appeal to the courts.
