AKEL Condemns Haralambidou's Stance as 'Unethical and Offensive'

AKEL has strongly criticized the stance of MP Irene Haralambidou, who has hinted at potentially running in the upcoming elections with another party. The party describes this move as "unethical and offensive," as the MP is positioning herself against the party and outside its parliamentary group. AKEL recalls the limit of two terms for its MPs, which was reduced from three at the 2023 congress, and the effort it made to find a position for Ms. Haralambidou, such as heading an Observatory for corruption and collusion. However, Ms. Haralambidou's refusal to accept the proposal and her potential candidacy with another party led to the closure of dialogue. AKEL emphasizes that political ethics require the return of the seat to the party and that it does not offer "careers" or "opportunities".
