AKEL: Support for Incomes and Coordination Needed to Save Livestock Farming

AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou emphasized the need for immediate support for the incomes of livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease and for coordinated action to save livestock farming. He called for full compensation for farmers for losses and loss of income, as well as the ability to cover their current financial obligations. AKEL has already submitted proposals to the relevant ministries but has not received a response. Mr. Stefanou stressed the need for consultation and coordination with the Turkish Cypriot side, without recognizing the pseudo-state, as was done during the pandemic. Finally, AKEL called for the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture, considering her inadequate in dealing with the crisis.
