Alexander Rybak Returns to Eurovision: Aims for Another Victory for Norway

Alexander Rybak, the winner of Eurovision in 2009, is returning to the Norwegian national final with his song “Rise,” vying for another chance to represent Norway in the competition. NRK, the Norwegian public broadcaster, has announced the first eight artists who will be competing this year, including Rybak, who previously won Melodi Grand Prix in 2018. Rybak expressed his excitement on social media, asking his fans to listen to his new album “Fairytales Too” and choose the song they believe should represent Norway at Eurovision. Alongside Rybak, the artists announced by NRK include Hedda Mae with “Snap Back,” Mileo with “Frankenstein,” Emma with “Northern Lights,” Storm with “Lullaby,” Leonardo Amor with “Prayer,” Silke with “Forevermore,” and Jonas Lovv with “Yayaya.” Rybak’s victory in 2009 in Moscow with “Fairytale” was historic, earning 387 points and breaking the then-record for the highest score. His success was attributed to both the televote and high scores from national juries.
