Anxious in the Occupied Territories: Residents Inquire About Shelters

Anxiety prevails in the occupied territories following recent developments in the region, with residents constantly inquiring about the locations of shelters. The “Minister of Transport,” Erhan Arıklı, responding to questions, stated that revealing the locations of the shelters would be detrimental to security, referring to the “enemy.” Mr. Arıklı stated that the shelters have a capacity for 200,000 people and are inspected every 6 months. At the same time, he noted that announcing the locations of the shelters in advance would be problematic for security reasons, causing reactions and disagreements within the newly established TAM party. The “President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Architects,” Onur Olguner, emphasized the importance of shelters, stressing that the safety of citizens is a priority. This situation reflects the growing concern in the occupied territories about a possible escalation of tensions in the region.
