Argentina: Raging Wildfires Devastate Patagonia – Over 150,000 Acres Reduced to Ash

Massive wildfires are raging in Argentine Patagonia, having already destroyed over 150,000 acres of forest and scrubland. Despite recent rainfall, the situation remains critical, with the largest fire having burned approximately 119,800 acres near the town of Epuyen. A second fire is ongoing in Los Alerces National Park, while other active fronts are present in the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz. More than 500 firefighters, rescuers, and volunteers are involved in firefighting efforts, with the assistance of aerial resources. Evacuations, injuries have occurred, and authorities are investigating the possibility of arson, offering a reward for information. These fires come a year after the worst fires in recent decades in the region, and are exacerbated by prolonged drought and strong winds.
