Auditor General: Admission Regarding Parliament Furniture, Clash with the Presidential Palace, and the Wig He Kept

The Auditor General, Andreas Papakonstantinou, spoke on state television about a series of issues concerning the Audit Office, including the report on Parliament furniture, the clash with the Presidential Palace over the Social Support Agency, and his disguise on a bus. He admitted that the report on Parliament furniture gave excessive emphasis to certain points, while characterizing Parliament’s response as “unsatisfactory.” Regarding the Social Support Agency, he expressed a desire for a different reaction from the Presidential Palace. He also supported the reform of the Audit Office, proposing a single-member system or an Audit Council, provided there were no constitutional issues. Finally, he joked about his disguise, stating that the wig became significant and that the disguise was necessary to avoid detection during surprise inspections.
