Bicommunal Veterinary Committee Discusses Foot-and-Mouth Disease Strategy

The Bicommunal Veterinary Committee convened to discuss the evolving situation of foot-and-mouth disease, following a request from the Greek Cypriot side. The committee has met several times since the first case was detected in the occupied territories, and its members maintain constant communication. The Greek Cypriot side provided an update on the situation in the free areas, including two new cases on farms in Dali and Geri. Turkish Cypriot members reported that the disease is contained in Lapathos and vaccination continues. The Greek Cypriot side proposed the adoption of uniform protocols with the EU, which the Turkish Cypriot members will consider. It is noted that mass culling of animals has not been carried out in the occupied territories, except in very severe cases.
