Chad: At Least 15 Dead in Drone Strike from Sudan

At least 15 people have been killed in the Chadian town of Tine as a result of a drone strike originating from Sudan. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and was confirmed by local officials and the Chadian armed forces. The war in Sudan, between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to cross-border attacks and prompted Chad to close its borders at the end of February. The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby, has ordered his army to retaliate against any attack originating from Sudan. A previous incident occurred at the end of February, with a rocket from Sudan causing damage in Tine, while earlier 15 soldiers and 8 civilians had lost their lives. The Darfur region of Sudan, bordering Chad, has been under the control of the RSF since October, following the capture of El Fasher. The RSF also captured the town of Tina, twin of Tine in Chad, which is separated by a dry river. The border between Chad and Sudan, 1,400 kilometers long, is difficult to control due to the desert area. The civil war in Sudan has caused a huge humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands dead and over 12 million displaced, of whom nearly one million are refugees in Chad.
