President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides met with the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, at the Presidential Palace. During the meeting, Mr. Kaklamanis invited President Christodoulides to address the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Parliament on May 14th, an invitation that was accepted. President Christodoulides expressed his gratitude for the invitation, describing it as a historic moment for the Republic of Cyprus. The discussion also covered the outcomes of the recent European Council, where Mr. Christodoulides and Kyriakos Mitsotakis achieved specific goals, particularly regarding Article 42.7 of the European Union Treaty, which concerns solidarity in times of crisis. He expressed Cyprus's gratitude for Greece's immediate response to a previous crisis. Furthermore, they discussed the EU's operational plan for activating Article 42.7, as well as issues of competitiveness and the rising cost of energy. It was decided to cooperate with the European Commission to take targeted measures to address the problem, taking into account the specific characteristics of each member state. Finally, the two leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for an initiative to de-escalate and end the conflict, with the cooperation of the EU, the countries in the region, and the United States.
