Christodoulides Promises 'Measurable Results' for Cypriot EU Presidency

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his confidence that the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union will deliver tangible and measurable results for the benefit of the Union and its citizens. The statement was made during a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, following the College of Commissioners' meeting at the new port of Limassol. President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of close cooperation with the European Commission and European institutions, as well as the need for Cyprus to act as an honest mediator and reliable partner. The Presidency is taking place during a period of geopolitical and economic challenges, with increased expectations from European citizens. President von der Leyen stated that the main pillars of the Cypriot Presidency will be security and defense, as well as competitiveness and partnerships. She highlighted the progress made in the field of defense and the need for an autonomous and strong Europe. Particular reference was made to the Mediterranean and the Middle East, with President von der Leyen emphasizing the importance of stability for economic development. The creation of a Regional Firefighting Hub in Cyprus was recognized as a priority for the EU, while resolving the Cyprus issue remains an absolute priority.
