Controversy Erupts in Cyprus Over Leaked Video Alleging Financial Dealings

A video circulating on social media has sparked intense political controversy in Cyprus. The video contains references to funding, access to the Presidential Palace, and procedures related to investments, raising questions about transparency and the institutional functioning of the state. The government rejects the allegations and states it will investigate the claims, while also mentioning the possibility of hybrid warfare or foreign involvement. Members of Parliament from various political parties are demanding answers from the President of the Republic and the individuals appearing in the video, challenging the government's claims. Particular emphasis is placed on references to funding from Russian investors, with requests for transparency regarding the use of the funds. AKEL MP Nikos Kettiros stressed that the video exposes the President and his associates, not the Republic of Cyprus, and called on the government to provide clear answers and stop vague statements about foreign involvement. He reiterated the need to disclose the names of donors to the Independent Social Support Agency. DIKO MP Chrysos Pantelidis also demands explanations from those involved, emphasizing the disappointment and sadness caused by the references in the video. He highlights the need for convincing answers, both as a citizen and as a member of the ruling coalition.
