Cyprus 2026 EU Presidency: Cultural Program Based on Five Pillars and Events in 31 Countries

Cyprus presented its cultural program for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, focusing on culture as a tool for political cohesion and European self-awareness. The program, based on the idea of the 'thread' as a connection between people and cultures, includes five key pillars: highlighting cultural heritage, promoting contemporary creation, integrating research and technology, supporting artists, and strengthening cultural diplomacy. The Inauguration Ceremony of the Presidency will take place on January 7, 2026, at the Main Stage of THOK, with the participation of more than 100 Cypriot artists and cultural professionals, directed by Kostas Silvestros. The performance will be titled “Memory – Present – After”. The international part of the program includes events in 31 countries, with iconic interventions in 11 countries and parallel events through Cypriot Embassies. Among the events are the Inauguration Gala in Brussels, artistic interventions in EU buildings, exhibitions at the European Parliament, and Cyprus's participation as the guest country at the Bozar Centre of Fine Arts. The program aims to present a polyphonic but unified cultural identity of Cyprus to Europe, connecting the past, present, and future. The Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, emphasized that culture is a conscious political choice with strategic depth and a European footprint.
