Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos emphasized the need for a stronger EU presence and action in the Middle East during the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. He highlighted that the war in the Middle East can no longer be seen as a purely regional conflict, but has global implications, affecting Europe in areas such as energy, sea routes, and navigation security. He pointed out that the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency, focusing on the Middle East, the Gulf, and maritime security, have become more relevant than ever. The Foreign Minister expressed the EU's solidarity with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Lebanon, calling for faster implementation of pending trade agreements. Regarding the new European security strategy, Mr. Kombos supported the need for a broad and inclusive process, without exclusions. At the same time, he stressed the importance of continued and enhanced support for Ukraine, as well as the renewal of sanctions related to its territorial integrity. Finally, the Foreign Minister referred to the upcoming EU meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister, emphasizing the strategic importance of relations with the country. India is considered an important partner for the EU, and continuing dialogue and deepening cooperation are vital.
