Cyprus: Goat and Sheep Vaccination to be Completed This Week

Vaccinations of goats and sheep within zones 3 and 10 km around the infected area are expected to be completed this week, according to Veterinary Services spokesperson Sotiria Georgiadou. The situation regarding the number of animals culled is considered contained, and consumers are assured that they can safely consume animal products. 135,000 vaccine doses have already been distributed, with 35,950 for cattle and the remainder for goats and sheep. Damage assessments and culling on infected farms continue, and hunting dog training has been banned in livestock areas. Veterinary Services are informing and advising zoos and animal collections, with laboratory results so far being negative. An extension of the vaccination program to the entire country is being considered after the completion of vaccinations in the 3 and 10 km zones.
