Cyprus Government Evaluating Trump's Invitation Regarding Gaza

Published February 9, 2026, 12:47

The Republic of Cyprus is evaluating the invitation it received from the President of the United States to participate in a special session on February 19th, which will focus on the reconstruction of Gaza. The Government has requested clarifications regarding the session before making a final decision on its participation. Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, stated that the Government supports Trump's peace plan for Gaza, provided that it operates within the framework of international law and UN resolutions. This position underlines Cyprus's commitment to resolving the crisis in the region. Mr. Letymbiotis pointed out that selected EU member states and third countries have been invited to the session, which means that a unified European stance is not expected. Cyprus will carefully consider the parameters of the session before deciding on its participation. The potential participation of Cyprus in the session would signify its assumption of an active role in the effort to rebuild Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to the population affected by the conflicts.
