Cyprus Government Faces Delays in Larnaca Hospital Transfer

The Cyprus government is experiencing delays in the handover of the old Larnaca Hospital, intended for conversion into a municipal building. The relocation of the state Health Services, necessary for the renovation work to begin, has been further postponed by three months, despite previous assurances from the Minister of Health for completion in October 2023 and then January 2024. The Municipality of Larnaca has secured funding of 9 million euros from the European Investment Bank and has a contract ready with the successful bidder since November 2023, but the process is stalled due to bureaucracy and delays from the State Health Services Organisation and the Ministry of Health. This situation highlights the state mechanism's inability to fulfill simple obligations, causing problems for the Larnaca Municipality.
