Cyprus Health Ministry to Evaluate Proposals for Nursing Shortage

The Cyprus Ministry of Health announced that a meeting will be held in one month to evaluate proposals regarding the shortage of nurses. The Minister of Health, Neofytos Charalambidis, stated that he has requested relevant stakeholders to submit their proposals within seven days, with the aim of finding immediate and mutually acceptable solutions. Mr. Charalambidis visited Limassol Hospital to examine interventions concerning the daily lives of patients and staff. His goal is to implement small-scale improvements in various departments of the hospital by the first quarter of 2026. Despite the nursing shortage, which is described as a global issue, measures have been taken that have led to an 85% increase in the number of nursing students in the last three years. However, the Minister acknowledged that the incentives to attract nurses are not yet sufficient. Regarding the major upgrade projects of Limassol Hospital, with a total cost of over 23 million euros, Mr. Charalambidis expressed confidence that they will be implemented on schedule, significantly contributing to the improvement of the services provided.
