Cyprus on High Alert: Security Council Meeting Addresses Potential Threat, Drone Ban Announced

Following an emergency meeting of the National Security Council chaired by the President of the Republic, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced the completion of routine security checks and the assessment of today's incident involving a suspected object near Lebanon. He clarified that the airspace of Cyprus was not closed, but space was provided for the operation of two aerial assets, resulting in delays for two flights. The President of the Republic held a telephone conversation with the President of Lebanon to exchange views on the regional situation and today's incident, reiterating the importance of strong bilateral relations. Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport will issue a ban on the use of drones by private individuals, allowing their use only by government departments with permission. Mr. Letymbiotis urged the public to remain calm and seek information only from official sources.
