Cyprus Presidency of the EU Aims for Stable and Reliable Energy Supply

Cyprus, during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, aims to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply for Europe. The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, presented the Presidency's vision for a decentralized and digitized energy system, capable of meeting the climate and energy targets for 2030 and 2050. The Presidency will focus on the affordability of energy for all, protecting businesses and households, as well as creating a united energy union through the improvement of cross-border infrastructure and the expansion of storage capabilities. Cyprus is committed to competitive energy prices and strengthening Europe's energy autonomy. In the industrial sector, the Cypriot Presidency will promote legislative initiatives, such as the Industry Acceleration Law, aimed at decarbonizing energy-intensive industries and ensuring global competitiveness. The visual identity of the Presidency is inspired by traditional Cypriot embroidery, which symbolizes community, diversity, and unity. The Presidency's motto, “An Autonomous Union, Open to the World,” reflects the focus on strengthening Europe's competitiveness, which is considered fundamental to its autonomy. The Minister of Energy welcomed EU journalists, emphasizing the importance of their role in informing and actively engaging citizens.
