Cyprus: President Optimistic After Talks with Guterres – “No Reason for Erhurman to Reject a Meeting”
President Christodoulides expressed optimism for the resumption of talks on the Cyprus issue, following discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The President expects a positive response from the Turkish Cypriot side to hold a meeting between the two leaders, emphasizing that there is no reason for the Turkish Cypriot leader to reject such a meeting. President Christodoulides stressed the political will of the Greek Cypriot side to find a solution to the Cyprus issue, adding that this will must be translated into specific initiatives that will yield results. He also referred to discussions with Britain regarding the installation of antennas at the British Bases in Akrotiri, an issue that has been raised by the Cypriot side.
