Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission Proposes Changes to Fees and PRIIP Products

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) is proposing changes to the fees and charges paid by Cypriot Investment Firms (CIFs), Market Operators and other supervised entities. It also proposes the introduction of fees for packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (PRIIPs). The proposed changes concern the methodology for calculating annual fees, as well as post-licensing notification obligations. Specifically, new types of information are proposed to be communicated to CySEC, and old obligations are to be abolished. Furthermore, the introduction of annual fees and charges for PRIIP producers, as well as for those providing investment advice or selling these products, is suggested. CySEC's goal is to align fees with the nature and size of the activities of supervised entities, reduce dependence on public funds, and strengthen its financial autonomy.
