Cyprus Supreme Court Lifts Immunity of MP Sizopoulos

The Cyprus Supreme Court has decided to lift the parliamentary immunity of former EDEK President and MP Marinos Sizopoulos. The process involved submissions from the Legal Service and the defense, with the Legal Service arguing that the conditions for lifting immunity are met, wishing the case to be examined like any other for a citizen. The defense, although initially objecting, ultimately did not oppose it, as Mr. Sizopoulos wishes to be treated like any other citizen. His lawyer noted that the case had been reported to the authorities by Mr. Sizopoulos himself in 2019. The Court, after a short recess, issued the decision to lift the immunity, based on genuine reasons requiring immediate investigation, emphasizing the principle of equality before the law.
