Cyprus Unemployment at 4.2% in January – Below EU and Eurozone Averages

Unemployment in Cyprus in January 2024 stood at 4.2%, according to Eurostat data, remaining lower than the European Union average (5.8%) and the Eurozone average (6.1%). Youth unemployment in Cyprus remains high, at 15%, as in other European countries. The difference between men (4.0%) and women (4.4%) is small. The countries with the lowest unemployment rates are Poland (3.1%), Czechia (3.2%) and Malta (3.4%), while the countries with the highest are Finland (10.2%), Spain (9.8%) and Greece (7.7%). Cyprus performs better compared to countries such as France, Portugal and Ireland. Youth unemployment remains a significant problem at European level, with Spain recording the highest rate (23.5%) and Greece 16%.
