Dangerous Conditions in the Mountains - Road Impacts

The Police have issued an increased readiness alert for drivers due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in many areas of Cyprus. The road surface is wet, while mountainous and semi-mountainous areas are experiencing slipperiness due to frost, especially during the morning hours. Some roads are open only to four-wheel drive vehicles or those with snow chains, while others have reported landslides and road works affecting traffic. Specifically, the roads Pedoula – Prodromou, Prodromou – Lemithou and Kakopetria – Pinewood – Pedoula are open only to four-wheel drive vehicles or those with chains. Furthermore, landslides have been reported on the roads Kalopanayiotis – Moutoulla – Pedoula, Kakopetria – Karvouna, Pedoula – Kykkos – Kampou, Kykkos – Tsakkistra and Kampou – Orkontas – Kato Pyrgos. The Police advise drivers to be particularly careful, to obey the Highway Code and to comply with the instructions of traffic police in order to avoid accidents.
