Defense Committee Approves Insurance Coverage for National Guard Personnel on Dangerous Missions

The Parliamentary Defense Committee has approved a regulatory arrangement providing insurance coverage for National Guard personnel participating in dangerous missions. This arrangement, in addition to the allowance they receive, ensures financial compensation to the family or dependents in the event of death or permanent disability during the performance of their duty, with the compensation being tax-free. The discussion concerned the “Republic of Cyprus Army (Allowances for Dangerous Missions of Army Members and Other Related Matters) (Amendment) Regulations of 2025”. Simultaneously, the Committee discussed the possibility of deploying troops to other countries, a discussion that began in 2024 and required extensive consultation. The goal is to gradually extend insurance coverage to all professional personnel of the National Guard.
