DISY Supports Immediate Restriction of Parliamentary Immunity

The Democratic Rally (DISY) supports the immediate restriction of parliamentary immunity, so that it only covers actions committed in the context of parliamentary duties. DISY states that experience has shown that immunity should not protect MPs who commit serious criminal offenses outside of their parliamentary duties. The party wants to regulate the issue before the next parliamentary elections, in order to ensure equality before the law, transparency and accountability. DISY believes that parliamentary immunity should be strictly limited to actions related to the exercise of parliamentary duties, such as speaking in Parliament or participating in committees. Any other act, not directly related to parliamentary activity, should be subject to the common criminal code.
